As July begins to wind down it’s time to begin looking ahead to August! As this blog series began to take shape I thought I’d choose four or five feast days to highlight and prepare for you. So when I sat down to make a list of August feast days I was overwhelmed! There are so many amazing saints and holy days celebrated in August. Some that are already important to our family and some that I’d love to incorporate into our celebration schedule.
But there are only so many hours in a day and so much time I can commit to researching, compiling and crafting our celebrations. It took me over a week to whittle down the list. And always in the back of my mind is…”there’s always next year!”
So, for this year, August’s highlighted feast days will be…
{drumroll please}
3rd: St. John Vianney
6th: The Transfiguration
11th: St. Clare
15th: The Assumption of Mary
23rd: St. Rose of Lima
I can hear you thinking, “Uh…Rebekah…that’s four celebrations in a little over a week! I can’t do that!” I know. I can’t either. But we’ll at the very least be talking about the stories, praying the prayers during our night prayer and possibly coloring for some of those. Those days are just so significant for my family! I couldn’t resist.
As always, pick what works for you and your family for this season, that particular day or time. Add and supplement as you wish. Choose just one day this month, perhaps, and focus on doing it as joyfully, simply and faithfully as you’re able. These plans will be there as an aid, not as a strict lesson plan.
If there are every feast days you’d like to see plans for, please let me know in the comments section! I’ll do my best to tailor the months based on your feedback!
I’d also really appreciate your feedback on how the plans are going so far. What has worked for you? What hasn’t? Is there anything that would make these more joyful, simple, and faithful for you? These are intended to be aids not impediments, so please do let me know your thoughts!
