Happy feast of St. Clare of Assisi!

Today we celebrated at home during Tea Time. Tea Time? Yes, tea time. Tea time happens every now and then around here. We had a good run during the fall and some of the spring incorporating tea time into our daily routine. At our peak tea time habit we managed a couple of times a week. Tea time is a great way to reconnect around snack time, get in some read-alouds of good story, poetry, catechesis or history. Or take some time to regroup after nap, chores, and individual play time (depending on the person). Its nice to take snack a little slowly every now and then. And snack time, or tea time, is a perfect time for these holy day celebrations!
The tea is optional. But it does elevate the time a little bit. Tea makes it seem a little more special, different, dare I say sacred? Its a time set apart for that reconnection to set the tone for the rest of the day and share in something meaningful.
Starting at tea time means beginning with the prayer. We prayed our usual before meal prayer and asked for the intercession of St. Clare. Then we poured (ladies first!), helped ourselves to cookies and munched while I read from the Miniature Stories of the Saints book on St. Clare. The children had a lot to ask and say about St. Clare saving the city!
And, you guys, those Italian Wedding Cookies, are too delicious and too easy to make. Like too easy. We whipped them up together in about 5 minutes. And they’re bite sized, so I lost track of how many I popped before we even sat down. I halved the recipe I shared in the plan this time around, cause today’s also daddy-o’s birthday. There are custards in the oven for his birthday dinner tonight. Please, set custards. I didn’t make a full batch of cookies!!!

The only thing not simple about this celebration is going to be the clean up. Powdered sugar EVERYWHERE! But did I mention how tasty they are?
