August 22: Queenship of Mary–Celebrate!

Before we get to the celebration…I forgot, yesterday, in the plan to add a song! This one’s perfect.

Although every time we sing it the children ask to watch this:

Definitely winning over here. Hey! They know the words…

Today’s celebration was another afternoon snack time celebration. I did introduce the crown activity this morning. It has perched on our home shrine since we began school this morning. They’ve done a nice job remembering! They’ve all earned jewels for the crown. Little Miss earned one for teaching her brother to play Hot Cross Buns on the recorder. And there was much rejoicing.

Here’s a photo shared by a friend of their set-up! I love the idea of the golden paper plate cut into a crown. They used stickers for the jewels, too. So simple and lovely!

We sat down together and the coloring commenced!I read the story from the plan to them aloud. Afterward JStar asked how I knew that that actually happened. It was so cute! “Mom! How did you know that happened?” There was a little bit of incredulity in his voice. And then, “Wait! It’s just like our jewels for the crown!” I have some smart cookies on my hands. Hee hee.

Then we cut the cake (not the cake I planned…an easier simple poundcake) served on fine china for the Queen! Nothing less than our best in her honor! And when else do we get to use it?And finished with our prayer and our hymn. We prayed the Antiphon from the Liturgy of the Hours, Hail Holy Queen, Hail Mary and ended with the closing prayer from the LOH. And of course sang Hail Holy Queen, with only a bit of a nod to Sister Act.

y’all i didnt have fresh berries and the kids wanted to have jewels. fruit snack twists sliced to rescue. a little gross, but the ones that count enjoyed it!
