This coming week contains two of the feast days we’ve highlighted in Holy Days at Home! Friday, July 14th, the Church will commemorate the memorial of St. Kateri Tekakwitha. Then on Sunday, July 16th, falls the feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.

Last year, when we visited upstate New York and celebrated St. Kateri’s feast day near her birthplace, I picked up a few books and trinkets to do with Native American history and St. Kateri. One book, Native North American Foods and Recipes by Kathryn Smithyman and Bobbie Kalman, is all about Native American foods. So, this year I hope to add in a recipe from that book to our celebration…Popcorn Balls! Not sure how authentic it is, but it looks fun and tasty. Can you go wrong with popcorn, maple syrup and butter? Probably not.
